Edith Beulah Evans (nee Banks) (Bea)
July 15, 1930 – August 5, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith Beulah “Bea” Evans, who left us peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Sunnybrae, BC, at the age of 95.
One of eleven children, Bea was born on July 15, 1930, in Kings County, Nova Scotia. A proud East Coaster by birth, Bea lived and worked in places as far-flung as Inuvik and Bermuda before eventually settling in Devon, Alberta.
Bea lived a full and vibrant life that spanned nearly a century, filled with love, laughter, service, and adventure.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Fred Evans (2010), daughters Connie Servold (2018) and Brenda Dewar (2024), Bea is survived by her daughter Christine (Shawn) Evans; sons-in-law Mark Servold and Doug Dewar who she was very close with; her cherished grandchildren Amanda (Cody) Hennebury, Megan (Mario) Morete, Matthew (Ashley) Servold, and Erica (Matt) Smith. She was a proud great-grandmother to Andres, Caleb, Hudson, and Elle. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Sandra Burns, her sister-in-law Cathy (daughter Carolyn) Banks, and many other dear relatives and friends. Sandra, Cathy and Carolyn held a special place in Bea’s heart and were a constant source of love and support, especially in her later years.
Bea entered nursing straight out of high school, beginning what would become a long and devoted career in health care. Because of Fred’s military service, the Evans family travelled widely before settling in Devon, Alberta in the mid-1970s. Bea worked in both the old and new Devon hospitals, where she made many lifelong friends and was known for her skilled hands, kind heart, and wry humour. She retired in the early 1990s, though her dedication to caring for others never faded.
In retirement, Bea and Fred embraced the freedom to travel. They spent many joyful days exploring the Rocky Mountains, particularly Jasper and Banff National Parks, and enjoyed numerous trips to the Okanagan and Las Vegas. Whether camping, hiking, knitting, doing crosswords, or tending to her gardens, Bea lived with purpose and joy. Animals, especially her beloved cat Sam—the “biggest cat on the block”—held a special place in her heart.
Bea deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—and the feeling was mutual. She and Fred were a constant, joyful presence in their lives, sharing adventures big and small—from camping and hiking to golfing, Disneyland trips, and treasured everyday moments.
In 2024, Bea moved to Sunnybrae, BC, to live with Christine and Shawn, where she spent her final year surrounded by love, family, and the beauty of nature.
Bea will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a kind and gentle spirit, a fierce independence, and a sharp wit that brought laughter and comfort to those around her. Her legacy of strength, compassion, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. Bea will be greatly missed by all of those she left behind
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bea’s name to a local animal rescue or charity of your choice.

Teena Louise Pereira
In Loving Memory of Teena Louise Pereira (née Gagne)
May 6, 1970 – August 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Teena Louise Pereira (née Gagne) on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 55. Teena passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side.
Born on May 6, 1970, at the Welland Hospital, Teena was the beloved daughter of Jean-Guy and Joanne Gagne. Teena will be deeply missed by her partner, Arnold Moniz, and her three cherished children: Kerri-Lynn (Connor), Lisa Marie, and Robbie. Teena was the grandmother to Braydon. She will forever be remembered by her sisters, Jackie (Keith) and Lisa (Rick), and as a beloved aunt to Justin, Curtis, and Kyle (Kayla). Teena’s memory will also live on in the hearts of her extended family, including her aunts and uncles: Doug, Carmy, Diane, Marcel, Diane, Linda, and Sandra. Predeceased by her sister Lynn and her grandparents Adrien, Anita, Louis, Cecile and Uncle Ron.
She grew up in Welland, where she was active in a variety of sports including YBC bowling, soccer, karate, and baseball. She also loved fishing and cherished spending time with her family and friends. A devoted partner, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she touched the lives of many with her warmth and unwavering love.
Teena graduated from Notre Dame College School in 1988 and briefly attended Conestoga College in the Early Childhood Education program. After a period of self-discovery, she realized her path lay elsewhere. In November 1990, Teena surprised many by enlisting in the Canadian Armed Forces—a bold decision that marked the beginning of a 26-year military career. During her service, she rose to the rank of Sergeant and was later recommended for promotion to Warrant Officer. True to her selfless nature, she declined the promotion to maintain the stability and routine that her children had come to know and love.
After retiring from the military, Teena found new purpose through volunteer work at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, where she dedicated over 700 hours of her time. Her experience there inspired her to pursue a second career as a Personal Support Worker (PSW), briefly working at Foyer Richelieu. Her natural compassion, empathy, and care made her a perfect fit for the role.
Teena often said that her greatest accomplishment in life was her children. Her legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Teena.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Bissell’s Hideaway – 205 Metler Road, Ridgeville, ON L0S 1M0.

David Vaughan Lee
03 January, 1952 – 11 August, 2025
Vaughan came to 2 Sqn, 1 CSR in 1971 and immediately took to the Regimental lifestyle, selecting the Land element when all communication trades were re-badged. It was a lifestyle he thoroughly enjoyed.
Upon graduation from Gloucester, Vaughan’s military journey began at CFS LADNER, followed then to his first of three postings to 2 Sqn. From there, he served at various stations in Canada and abroad including exercises in Germany and numerous tours to Alert.
As he progressed in rank, promoted to SSM 2 Sqn, he became, to some, stern; only wanting for those under him to achieve their very best.
After his 1994 military retirement, Vaughan moved to the West Coast, working with the municipality of Tofino. Then moving to Qualicum Beach, BC he worked as a civilian RCMP employee. However, his health deteriorated forcing him into full retirement.
Vaughan suffered a significant heart attack and succumbed to his condition with family by his side August 11, 2025. He will be missed.
Rest in Peace, Soldier — Vaughan was 73.
Do not stand
By my grave, and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep—
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand
By my grave, and cry—
I am not there,
I did not die.
Immortality, by Clare Harner
John Collette
1965 – 2025
Obituary of John Collette
Collette, Larry “John” – Peacefully with his wife Gail and friend Geoff by his side, at Lennox and Addington County General Hospital in Napanee, Ontario on Saturday, August 16, 2025, just 4 days shy of his 60th birthday. John is survived by his loving wife Gail and fur babies Maddieline, Titi, Piper, Merlin and Oliver.
John was born in Toronto, raised in Cornwall, Ontario and spent most of his adult life in Saint John, New Brunswick before moving to Ottawa at the start of his military life. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 2000, where he became a Master Seaman in communications research. In 2006, he participated in a NATO Tour on HMCS Athabaskan. He then worked out of Leitrim and CFEWC in Ottawa before moving in 2010 for a 3-year Outcan posting to Buckley’s Airforce Base in Aurora, Colorado. In 2013, he was posted to Kingston, where he took on a position as a Signals Intelligence Specialist Instructor at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE).
In 2017, John retired from the military and went back to school, learning how to be a welder and later joining the Ironworkers Union Local 165.
John loved woodworking, gardening, working on the house, taking care of his chickens and thoroughly enjoyed the country life he and Gail had made for themselves. He loved music and always played it way too loud!
Church was a very important part of John’s life. He was always willing to lend a hand when needed. For a brief time, he ran the Sunday slide show and was very proud to do so. He was blessed to have many wonderful people in his life: Gary, Geoff, Gan, Chantal, Len, Tammy and Andrew; John considered many of his church friends as family. He had a special place in his heart for Gwenyth.
John will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.
John will be laid to rest at a private ceremony, to be followed by a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Lung Cancer Association in John’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Elsa Lessard
02 July 1922 – 22 July 2025

Here Elsa Lessard is copying Morse code from a Canadian Marconi CSR5 receiver, a radio she was very familiar with during her service at Coverdale in WW2. This photo was taken in Radio 1 of HMCS HAIDA in 1998.
Elsa Lessard passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at home with loved ones by her side. She celebrated her 103rd birthday with friends and family members on July 2.
Elsa is predeceased by her parents Francis and Lucilla (nee Adams), her son, John, her grandson, David, her siblings, Frank, Mildred, Adrienne, Alf, Ossie and Ernie. Survived by her daughter, Janice, daughter-in-law Ginne, her grandchildren, Debbie, Wendy, Nic, her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaitlin, Nina and Connor and her great-great grandchildren Rory and Logan. She will be missed by many friends and extended family.
Elsa is a WWII veteran and “WREN” as they were known, belonging to the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service. She is notable for her work as a “Secret Listener” intercepting German Naval signals to be decoded at Bletchley Park on the famed decoding machine of Alan Turing. For her service she received the Voluntary Service Medal, the War Medal and in 2024, the King Charles III Coronation Medal. She received a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation (2008), the Bletchley Park Service Badge (2010), the Robert I Hendy Award (2023), and has been described as a “National Treasure” by Adrienne Arseneau of the CBC and Admiral Topshee, Commander Royal Canadian Navy. Elsa was a passionate educator and enjoyed sharing her experience with Canadians of all ages on the role women played in the war effort, reminding people that women were full members of the Navy, not an auxiliary. Elsa has been interviewed on TV and in print many times although, later in life, as her story had been more fully told, she simply asked potential interviewers and well wishers to ‘just google me’. Most recently in 2024 she appeared on CBC Newsworld on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings that marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War in Europe. In May 2025 she was a guest at the opening of the Last Voices of the Second World War exhibit at the Canadian War Museum; outlasting the band and demonstrating her swing dancing skills.
She was a proud NDP supporter, rallying for progressive causes including Women’s Rights, Canada’s Indigenous Reconciliation and peace initiatives. Born and raised in Ottawa she remained there until her death. She fondly remembered her time living in the Preston Street area, learning piano for twenty-five cents a lesson and studying ballet. An avid amateur genealogist, she set a foundation that others continue to build on. She spent hours researching family history, without the aid of the internet, from Chambois, France to Quebec with a detour through the United States and finally to Ottawa. An eager traveler, she reported there were not many parts of the world she had not visited. A trip to Chambois, as part of her research, was a travel high point.
Many thanks to the staff at Assurance Home Care and SE Health for the loving care they provided. Assurance Home Care is distinguished for their spirit of partnership, dedication, compassion and wisdom. They were instrumental in keeping Elsa at home, safe, happy and healthy.
Elsa has been interred at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the Canadian War Museum beginning at 6 pm on Monday, August 11, 2025 for the Celebration of Life with the program beginning shortly after. Although not required, please consider indicating your intention to attend at tinyurl.com/ElsaCelebration to help us estimate the number of attendees.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, the Canadian War Museum or The War Amps.

03-Jun-1943 – 10-May-2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Alexander Craig on the
evening of Saturday May 10, 2025 at Hospice Huronia, after a brief but valiant battle with
cancer.
Born in Crayford, Kent, England, Neil emigrated to Canada with his family in 1947, settling
in Midland, Ontario, where he spent much of his youth. He is lovingly remembered by his
cherished wife Jan, their precious golden retriever Lily, his sons Myles (Joelle) and Bryan
(Cindy), and his treasured grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, and Aiden. He was predeceased by his parents John (Alec) and Iris Craig (née Hawkes), and his brother Keith.
At age 12, Neil was recruited to the Midland Brass Band who he played with for a number of
years, and soon after also joined the local Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC Huron) playing lead
drum in the Corps’ bugle band. Neil also played kit drums with a number of local bands
during his teenage years, but his high school experience led him to the French Horn and a
love of classical music. Neil maintained this love for classical music throughout his life,
enjoying both choral and instrumental music from the Baroque period.
Neil joined the Royal Canada Navy in 1962, training at both HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS
Gloucester, and served mostly in the far North at HMCS Churchill (Manitoba) during the
Cold War, monitoring Russian radio communications. After retiring from the Navy in 1965,
Neil stayed on in Churchill, working for Pan-American Airways at the Churchill Research
Range as an Electronic Technician.
Neil obtained his private and commercial pilots license in 1968, and he worked for a short
period soon after as a Flying Instructor and Charter Pilot at Collingwood Air Services, flying
out of Huronia Airport.
After working at Motorola for a short time, Neil settled into a 30-year career at TRW
(formerly Décor Metal Products) as Buyer in the Purchasing Department. His time with TRW
included a transfer to Rochester Hills, Michigan USA where he continued in Purchasing and
Purchasing Management positions, travelling globally until his retirement in 2005. After
retirement, Neil and Jan eventually returned to the Midland area, and in 2007 relocated to
nearby Wyevale, Ontario.
Neil’s deep connection to pipe band music spanned more than 50 years, and he shared his
amazing talents on the snare drum with many people during this time. Starting in the early
1970s, Neil played with the Midland Legion Branch 80 Pipes and Drums. While living in
Michigan he played first with the Birmingham Pipe Band and then with St. Andrews Pipe
Band (a Grade 3 competition band). Upon his return to the Midland area, Neil rejoined the
Midland Legion Branch 80 Pipes and Drums and played with them as a Drum Sergeant for
many years, retiring from band life in January 2025. During this latter period Neil also spent
15 years playing with the Commissioner’s Own Pipes and Drums of the Ontario Provincial
Police, a musical accomplishment he was particularly proud of.
Neil was involved with the Sea Cadets again in the 1980s when the Navy League of Canda
reformed a cadet corps in the Midland area as RCSCC 286 Trillium. Neil was
Commissioned into the Naval Reserve (CIL) as a Lieutenant (N) and served as Trillium’s
inaugural Commanding Officer for 3 years. Both of Neil’s sons joined the Sea Cadets and
served proudly under his command.
Neil was also a lifelong scale model enthusiast, known internationally for his expert
craftsmanship in 1/76 scale WWII British and Canadian military vehicles. In his later years,
he scratch-built master models for casting companies Milcast Models and Friendship
Models in Scotland. Over 60 of Neil’s models are on permanent display at the Regimental
Museum of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters in Barrie, Ontario, where he also volunteered.
His work was featured in military modelling magazines such as Tankette and Military
Modelcraft International, and he generously shared his knowledge with fellow hobbyists
around the world, many of whom he came to consider as close friends.
Neil was a generous mentor, a dedicated volunteer, and a true craftsman in all he pursued.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff at GBGH and Hospice Huronia for their compassionate care. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

October 4, 1950 ~ March 27, 2025 (age 74)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Everett Tracey, who left us peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 74.
Thomas, fondly known as Tom (AKA Bomber), was a man of great faith and love who lived a life of selflessness and devotion. Born to Helen and Aulden Tracey on October 4, 1950, Tom was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Terri, but is lovingly remembered by his siblings Carol, Jim, Janice, and Sylvia.
Tom’s greatest pride and joy were his children—Chris, Lisa, Tina, Sandra, and Ryan—and his legacy is carried forward by his cherished grandchildren: Corey, Candice, Tyler R-D, Joseph, Sebastian, Riley, Tyler D, Abby, Alexandra, Zoey, Daniella, and Gabriella. Also a great grandchild Aubrey.
A proud veteran of the armed forces, Tom served his country as a Master Seaman, embodying honor and dedication throughout his career. Beyond his service, Tom touched countless lives through his steadfast support as a dear friend of Bill W. for nearly 40 years.
Tom had a special passion for music and was a talented, self-taught guitar player who brought joy to many with his melodies. The Tracey family camp on Mackin Lake held a special place in his heart, where he created countless happy memories with loved ones. Tom also had an adventurous spirit, frequently embarking on road trips to visit family.
An avid hockey enthusiast, Tom both played and loved the game until he was no longer able. His selflessness, big heart, and love for his family and faith left an indelible mark on those who were lucky enough to know him.
Tom’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
A service to honour Tom’s life will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506) 646-2424 on Friday, April 4th with visitation from 12 pm – 1 pm and the service at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel. January 20, 1949 ~ March 11, 2025 (age 76)
Life has been a great journey but I’ve hit a rough stretch and my body has taken a different route.
I was predeceased by brothers: Dewey Myers, John Ryan and sisters: Edith Mae (Johnny Jobes and Sandy MacInnis), Christine (Rollie Ingraham), Bessie, Wilma (Bill MacNeil), Bernadette (George MacIntyre).
I am survived by my wife Mary Anne, my son Aaron, my sisters Shirley Harrison (Peter), Paula Currie (Wayne), Cindy MacLean (Bobby) plus many nieces and nephews.
My parents, Willie and Peggy (Meyers) Ryan, raised me and my siblings, seven sisters and a brother, on a small farm on Boularderie Island in Cape Breton.
I attended a one room school house until grade eight and then off to Baddeck for high school. Quite a change but I really enjoyed it. A lot of choices to make and many friends were made. I was even able to play organized sports.
I joined the military in Dec. 1968. I did training in HMCS Gloucester then CFS Leitrim (near Ottawa) where I met a wonderful girl named Mary Anne. It was Love at First Sight. We married in 1970 and we had a beautiful son named Aaron. My other postings included two six month tours to Alert NWT, CFB Masset (Queen Charlotte Islands, BC), CFB Kingston and CFS Carp (Ontario).
After 17 years, I needed a change and went to work at Communication Security Establishment with National Defense in Ottawa. After 17 years there, I retired in 2003 with 34 years service with National Defense.
I moved back to Boularderie with my wife Mary Anne to the family farm property where I grew up. I truly enjoyed the return. We had a beautiful view of Bras d’or lake and great neighbors. When I developed a few cancers we moved to Westmount – 10 min. from the hospital. Between Palliative care, VON, my loving wife and son, I was very well taken care of. I stayed positive and kept out of trouble.
That is my basic story. I read a few self-written obits and liked the idea.
I have chosen to be cremated and to have a Celebration of Life which will take place at the Sydney Mines Legion, 769 Main Street on Saturday March 15, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m..

Michael (Mike) Peachey
04 May 1944 – 05 February 2025
Papa left us peacefully, bravely at home on Wednesday February 5th, in his 81st year, with Kim and Korinne loving on him then, and for the last few months, the three of them making a great team during Dad’s short cancer bout.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Kathryn, who he was so happy to know he would meet again & survived by his Daughters- Kim Peachey, Korinne Peachey (partner Nick Constantinidis) and Sharon Ward. He was the proudest and so loved Papa of Luke and Molly, Katey, and Peter, Mikey, Stephanie and Emily.
The eldest of seven children, Mike is survived by his six siblings and their families- Diane, Alan (and Rosanne), Grant, Paul, Donna, and Richard (Teresa). He was predeceased by parents Kenneth and Violet, who brought the family to Canada from England in 1956, and is also survived by several Aunts and Uncles, from the UK to Australia.
Some of Dads philosophies were – everything should be enjoyed in moderation, keep things neat and tidy, small portions at meal time were best because you could always go back for seconds, noise should be kept to a minimum & always have a book on the go. As the only man in a house full of girls, he tried his best to have some control over these things, and privacy, but he never really stood a chance. His daughters made sure of that, conspiring with mom to keep him on a “need-to-know” basis when it came to both their childhood and adult adventures.
Though he may have seemed to have a stern exterior at times, those who truly knew him—his family, his friends, and the many who affectionately called him “Smilin’ Mike”—understood that it was all just a ruse. His natural warmth for the underdog, incredible smarts and quick, dry wit made him a treasured friend and a forever loved father and Papa.
Mike dedicated 25 years to a military career, with memorable postings to Bermuda and the N.W.T., finally settling in Kingston in 1983, where he and Kath and the girls built lifelong friendships. An active and healthy guy until last fall- he had a knack for tennis and curling and golf, to name a few- which he enjoyed for many years and treasured the incredible friendships, camaraderie and shenanigans that came with it. (Mom being the cause of most of the shenanigans…)
Be charitable, sensible, kind, and/or raise a Guinness in his honor- Dad would appreciate any or all of these- whatever you are able to do. He was one of the good ones, and we will miss him like crazy.
We hadn’t much experience with healthcare professionals at all for Dad until recently, he’d not ever been hospitalized for any reason before, so we have to say something about the incredible KHSC staff- Kidd 4, the Oncology nurses and Doctors and the Palliative and home care professionals & Community paramedics, namely Dr. Kate and Nurse Brian, who should gratefully and sincerely be recognized.
Cremation and care has been entrusted to Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home. Respecting Dad’s wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. Instead, we will invite family and friends to gather in the Spring and celebrate his life, well lived and loved.
Only if you can, please consider a donation to the UHKF (Kingston Health Science Centre), or our local KFL&A United Way. (Or as Papa did, cheer on your kid or grandchild at their game, watch an old movie with them, or talk about current events- they will remember it all.)

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Stella King (née Elke), who passed away peacefully at Perley Heath Veterans Residence on January 31, 2025, at the age of 90.
Margaret was born in 1934 in Kandahar, Saskatchewan, to Walter and Marie Elke (née Braitenbach). She was the beloved wife of Robert Norman Rufus King (Bob), who predeceased her by 10 years, almost to the day.
Margaret is survived by her children Karen King (Marvin), Elaine Rowlands (Bill) and Graeme King (Lily) as well as her dear sister Joyce Didur. She was a loving family matriarch to her 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, her son, Kevo (Kevin), her parents, Walter and Marie and her sisters, Sylvia Kohut and Verna Trowbridge.
Margaret grew up in Saskatoon with her sisters and was known for her athletic and adventurous spirit. She was an avid softball and basketball player, curler and cross-country skier, who embraced life with energy and enthusiasm.
In April 1953, near the end of the Korean War, when she was just 18 years old, Margaret joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service – the “Wrens”. She trained at CFB Cornwallis in Nova Scotia before beginning her work as a morse code special operator. While serving in the Navy, she met Bob, the love of her life, whom she married in 1956. In 1976, Margaret began her second career, in intelligence, with the Communications Security Establishment as a transcriber, serving Canada with dedication until her retirement in 1995.
Margaret will be remembered for her strength, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to her family and country. Her warmth, humor, kindness and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including the wonderful staff at Perley Health in Ottawa.
A memorial for family and friends will be held at the Perth Legion at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perley Health Foundation.

David Alphonse (Frankie) Robertson
5 August 1951 – 25 January 2025
The family and many close friends of David Alphonse Robertson (known as Phonse to his siblings and Frankie to his military family) are mourning his passing. His loss is profound for his wife Doreen and children Nancy and Scott.
Frankie was the product of a very large and boisterous family in Sydney, Cape Breton. He is survived by sister Joan/Klaus and brother Allan/Margaret. Frankie was the ever-popular class comedian and talented disc jockey in his early years. He had a sensitive personality, a heart as big as the ocean, and he was a constant source of wild and funny stories throughout his whole life. He was, in short, a character, unforgettable.
He was justly proud of his Canadian Navy roots and 27 year career as a Communication Research Operator (291er), during which he became a valuable mentor to many as they came up through the trade. His sense of humour and kindness left their mark on many throughout his career. His postings included Bermuda, Hawaii, Inuvik, Masset, Kingston and Ottawa along with several tours at CFS Alert, all during which he made many life-long friends. He was a gentle giant who could light up a room and engage in conversation on just about any topic.
Upon retiring from the military, Frankie became a contractor in support of the Army, working in the field of Electronic Warfare. And finally, Frankie joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, serving at several facilities throughout the National Capital Region.
He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on KofC Council 7873 and was a fourth degree member who had the distinct privilege to be an Honour Guard for several years.
Friends and colleagues are invited to join family at a service to be held at Divine Infant Parish, 6658 Bilberry Dr. Orleans on Thursday February 13th at 11am with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff at the Monfort Emergency Dept. and the Ottawa Civic ICU and Acute Care units for all their compassion and support.

Gary Frederick Marshall
1948 – 2025
Our family is so sad to have to share that Gary Frederick Marshall passed away in the Blomidon Court Nursing Home in Greenwich, NS, mid-morning on Thursday, January 9, 2025. His wife, Heather Morse, was faithfully by his side, holding his hand as he made his way through the emotional sendoff he received from the staff, family and friends who were able to gather there that morning.
Gary never wanted any fuss about him; he just wasn’t that guy. But we’re sure he also didn’t quite understand how far and wide his reach in our world was. We’re confident that those fortunate enough to know Gary and spend time with him during his jam-packed, adventure-filled life would agree. Whether he was sharing a hearty laugh, engaged in deep conversations, or so generously and naturally sharing his experience and expertise, Gary was a people person, and we are all so much richer for that.
Gary is now with the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, NS, as they help fulfill his wish to be cremated. A longer retrospective of Gary’s life and information about a future celebration of life will follow.
Instead of flowers, our family welcomes donations in Gary’s name to some of the organizations and causes that stand for things he loved throughout his life and also that affected him and our own hearts dearly while living the last part of his life with Vascular Dementia: the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia SPCA or KidSport Canada.
